Liverpool Sailing Club

Back to Home

Sport England, NWDA, Mersey Basin Campaign, Liverpool city council and land owners Peel Holdings have united to transform the Speke Garston Coastal reserve and revitalise the Liverpool shoreline.

At the heart of the reserve is the new Liverpool Sailing club, built to replace the original clubhouse destroyed by arsonists five years ago.

The clubhouse, designed to look like a sail is one of a few buildings in the country that is zero carbon rated.

There is no electric or gas supply to the premises, the building is totally self sufficient with power being generated via exposure to natural elements i.e sun/wind. The moat surrounding the building will collect rainwater that is re-used within the building.

The Minister of the environment MP Elliot Morley had taken a keen interest in the development and visited the site during the construction and said, ?it was a fascinating project?
